Raccoon Dangers | Hazardous Contamination
When a Raccoon's chosen to inhabit your home, it's imperative to take immediate action! Remember, you don't just have Raccoons. You have everything they bring with them, and everything they leave behind: disease, parasites, feces, urine and much more. Raccoons are known carriers of rabies, upper respiratory disease and mange. They are also hosts to fleas, ticks, mites and lice. Raccoons are also the primary host of the Roundworm parasite, which is left behind in their feces and can be deadly.
Raccoons will often invade your attic space, making this their new home and their new toilet. They can cause extensive damage in a very short period of time, both structurally (chewed wires, torn vents, facia and air ducts, etc.) and environmentally (feces, nests and urine marks). Contaminated Attic Space is a health hazard and must be delt with by trained specialists! Read More About Attic Decontamination & Restoration
Pregnant and nursing female Raccoons will nest in your attic, which can quickly compound your problem. They will act aggressively to protect their young and must be handled with extreme caution and care!
Roundworm
Roundworm is a disease caused by a parasite, a microscopic round worm named Baylisascaris procyonis. Raccoons are the primary host of this roundworm, which is commonly found in their small intestines. Raccoons shed millions of the microscopic roundworm eggs in their feces. It takes about a month for newly deposited eggs to develop to the infective stage. The eggs can only develop into worms when they are in an animal's body, but the eggs are hardy and may survive for years in soil, sand, water or insulation.
People may encounter the eggs through direct contact with raccoon droppings or by touching a contaminated area or object. If they don't wash their hands, they may later transfer the eggs to their mouths. Small children are particularly vulnerable because they tend to put their hands, and other objects such as bark, wood chips, toys, soil, or even droppings, into their mouths.

• On our initial visit, our trained technicians will complete a thorough inspection of the property, both inside and out. If accessible, the attic space will be evaluated for levels of hazardous raccoon contamination as well as structural damage.
• Once we've determined all vulnerable points of entry, we can begin a trapping program to clear the space of all offending wildlife. If baby raccoons have been left behind by their mother, a technician will locate and remove them by hand.

Wildlife Case Studies: Animal Proofing (Screening)
A family in Westchester County, NY discovered they had Raccoons living under their porch. They heard chirping and rustling noises under the deck boards, and soon thereafter noticed a bad smell building up. The Raccoons were also seen getting into and tipping over the garbage cans. At that point, the homeowners decided to give us a call.
Trapping & Removal - Upon inspection, we determined that a family of raccoons were in fact living under the front porch. The sides of the porch had been left open, allowing animals to come and go as they pleased. We set several baited traps around and under the porch to catch them all at once if possible. The following day we returned to see we'd caught the mother and her three babies. All four were transported to a local Raccoon Rehabilitator to care for them until the babies were strong enough to go back to into the wild.
Wildlife Solution - In order to stop new animals from making this porch their home, we recommended animal proofing the perimeter. We trenched out the ground and inlaid industrial grade, galvanized wire mesh. The mesh was scribed and affixed to the stoned, as well as spiked into the ground. Once permanently secured, the dirt was back-filled and new white lattice was installed to give the porch a nice finished look.

"TriState Wildlife is an excellent company. They were quick and thorough, and their prices seemed really reasonable. I'd been hearing noises in my attic for a couple days, when I saw a raccoon climb up onto my roof and into an attic vent. I found TriState Wildlife in a google search for 'Westchester Raccoon Removal' and was really impressed with all the positive reviews and the great examples of their work on their website.
I called them up on a Tuesday and they'd caught the raccoon by Wednesday night. It turned out to be a mother with a bunch of little babies, that they took out of the attic by hand. Once they were all out, they sealed everything up nice and tight and gave me a written guarantee that I'd stay animal free. They made such a good impression on me, that I'm actually writing an online review, which I almost never do. They're a great company that you can trust!"

"We never had any problems when we moved here in our new house until recently we were disturbed by some strange noises from the attic. I rarely go there so I thought that it must be just rats until my husband told me that there were raccoons up there and making quite a mess. I don't want my husband to hurt them if he is going to shoo them away so I asked for professional help on this one.
I called Tristate Wildlife to solve our raccoon problem and they arrived later that day and brought some equipment with them. They quickly started to remove the raccoons and they handled it with care and making sure they were not hurt. After that, they went up to seal the roof where the raccoons managed to enter before and even cleaned up the attic for us. I was really impressed with their professionalism at handling the situation and they were nice to even clean the mess. Two thumbs up for these guys. "

"TriState Wildlife is fantastic at what they do! I called them late one night when I heard strange noises in the attic. Based on my description alone, they were able to tell that it was raccoons. They eased my worry by telling me that we were safe for the night and they could come first thing in the morning to inspect everything. They showed up nice and early, checked out the attic and set raccoon traps on the roof. By the following day, they'd trapped the mother raccoon and later pulled 5 adorable baby raccoons from the attic. They sealed up a few holes and screened the attic vents, assuring me that I wouldn't have anymore animals getting in again. Their prices seemed very reasonable and the service was outstanding. I hope I never need to use them again (haha), but I'll absolutely be recommending them in the future! 5 Star Service!"

"I woke up in the middle of the night to the sound of raccoons crying in my ceiling and I thought for sure I must still be dreaming. When the crying didn't stop, I definitely started getting worried. I called the local police, who told me they didn't have animal control, but gave me the number to TriState Wildlife. I called them without even thinking about the time, but they answered right away and walked me through the problem. They explained how the raccoons might have gotten inside the attic to give birth, and if the crying didn't stop by morning, it may mean that the mother died while she was out finding food. They were just as concerned about the little babies as I was. They agreed to push their schedule around so that they could come first thing in the morning.
The babies were still crying when they got here, which hadn't been great for my sleep, but I really didn't mind. There's no way to get into my attic, so they had to cut a small hole in the ceiling to reach them. They pulled out four adorable babies that looked like they hadn't eaten in days. After closing up the hole in the ceiling, they let me watch them feed the babies formula from an eyedropper. It was one of the cutest things I've ever seen!
They checked my whole roof line and closed up all of the holes that they found. They even raccoon proofed my chimney, just so that I wouldn't have to worry about it in the future. They were kind and professional and really seemed to take pride in their work. I was really happy that they were the ones to come help me."

"When we heard strange animal noises in the chimney, we immediately called TriState Wildlife. They helped us when a skunk fell down our basement window well a couple of years ago and we hadn't forgotten them. We were really impressed by their professionalism back then and they were just as fantastic this time around. They arrived first thing in the morning to assess the situation and had traps set on the roof within an hour.
They were back again the following morning to pick up the trapped raccoon and remove the babies from the chimney. It was incredible to watch them pull out one little baby after another out of our fire place! They even let us all watch as they put the babies into the mothers cage, before taking them all to a raccoon rehabilitator. Our children were absolutely mesmerized! Now that they've installed a beautiful chimney cap for us, we don't have to worry about this ever happening again. It was really cool, but not that cool! We wholeheartedly recommend TriState Wildlife! "

"TriState Wildlife did a fantastic job removing the raccoons from my family's attic! I heard about their company last year when my sister had raccoons living under her porch. She couldn't say enough good things about them and when I saw their handy work first hand, I knew she got her moneys worth. So when my husband and I started hearing strange noises in the attic, they were the first company we thought to call and we're so happy that we did!
TriState Wildlife took care of absolutely everything! They discovered that our attic was in ruins from the raccoons living inside. We knew right away just from the pictures that it was going to be a costly venture, but TriState Wildlife made sure we were taken care of. They documented everything and worked with our home owners insurance to get full coverage on all of the repairs. Within two weeks, they had trapped and removed six raccoons, including five babies, completely raccoon proofed our entire home and did a total attic decontamination and restoration job. At one point, there were six guys in full Hazmat gear working inside the attic. It was amazing and gross and I'm so happy that they were able to do it for us!
TriState Wildlife is a great company that takes their job seriously and does it well. If you have raccoons in your attic, or under your porch, or anywhere else you can imagine, they're the company you want to hire. Trust me!"
